Schools are welcome at Gainsborough Old Hall. 8,166 came in 2005! We run a lively and exciting education programme, designed to meet the requirements of the National Curriculum KS 1,2 and 3. The programme was developed through consultation between local teachers and our educational staff. Schools can book a morning activity session with our education demonstrators. This is based upon role play and practical activities and includes a banquet to celebrate Henry VIIIs visit to the Old Hall in 1541. Schools are then free to set their own programme for the afternoon.

Special schools are always welcome at the Old Hall. We are happy to arrange a meeting prior to your visit to discuss appropriate activities for your group, if you think it would be helpful.

However, we can offer alternative activities to groups or individuals who are unable to gain access to the first floor. Please let us know if this is the case when you book so that we can plan accordingly.

There is a disabled toilet, with chair lift provision for access.

School groups are limited to a maximum of 70 children per visit There must be at least one teacher/adult to every 6 children Please telephone to check current charges. Accompanying teachers/adults are free to a ratio of 1:6. Special need ancillaries are free.

Our education service is very popular and is therefore advisable to book a visit one year in advance to avoid disappointment

Visiting groups can also pre-book a Tour Guide, at no extra cost.  For further details contact Administration on [44+] 01427 612669.

We also cater for group visits during normal opening hours and for evening visits.  Prior notice is always required for group bookings and catering requirements.  Please telephone in the first instance on: [44+] 01427 612669.  Download form.

Visitors are advised to wear warm clothing, especially during the months of October to May inclusive. There is no central heating in the Hall, and it can be very cold - especially in the evenings.
